Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay (12 September 1894 – 1 November 1950) was a legendary Indian author who wrote prominent works in the Bengali language.
Early Life and Education: Born in Muratipur-Ghoshpara village near Kanchrapara in West Bengal.Family: Son of Mahananda Bandyopadhyay, a Sanskrit scholar and storyteller, and Mrinalini Devi.Education: Graduated with a degree in History, Economics, and Sanskrit from Ripon College (now Surendranath College) in Kolkata.
Career and Professions: Worked as a school teacher, a travelling publicist, and a secretary to support his family before focusing full-time on writing.
Masterpiece: Gained widespread fame with his 1929 autobiographical novel [Pather Panchali] (Song of the Road), which formed the basis of Satyajit Ray’s acclaimed Apu Trilogy films.
Notable Works: Authored classics like Aparajito, Chander Pahar (Mountain of the Moon), Aranyak, and Ichhamati.
Personal Life: Married Rama Chattopadhyay in 1940; their son Taradas Bandyopadhyay was born in 1947.
Death: Died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 56 on November 1, 1950, in Ghatshila, Bihar (now Jharkhand).
